Using Containers – Reducing Carbon Emissions

At the core of our Deconstruction ideology is a deep commitment to sustainability, and we’ve found that using shipping containers as a method for stockpiling and storing materials is a powerful way to reduce our environmental impact. Since the inception of this approach, we’ve been incorporating containers into our projects to minimize waste and streamline the process of deconstructing buildings.
Our most recent project in Muriwai served as a test pilot for this method, and the results have been so successful that we are now planning to implement this strategy for all our future Deconstruction projects in the area. By using containers, we drastically reduce transportation emissions. Instead of making multiple trips with trucks, the transportation of a container involves only two trips—one for drop-off and one for pick-up—while holding the equivalent of five truckloads of materials.
This significant reduction in truck movements not only lowers our carbon footprint but also helps preserve the natural beauty and quiet of Muriwai.
Muriwai is a unique place, filled with native landscapes and a community that values a free-range, peaceful lifestyle. We’re proud to be offering a solution that minimizes disruption to the area by limiting the number of trucks on the road. This method aligns perfectly with our mission to protect both the environment and the people who call Muriwai home.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue refining our processes, uncovering new ways to reduce our impact, and future-proofing our work for a more sustainable and responsible future. We remain committed to preserving the whenua and maintaining the tranquillity of Muriwai for generations to come.
