Deconstruction
Point Chevalier Deconstruction 2024/25
OVERVIEW:
The project has now successfully concluded, and we’re proud to reflect on the positive impact it’s had. Our partnership with the TROW division in Tonga has been a true success, allowing us to repurpose a significant amount of furniture and materials. These items, all in good condition, were salvaged and sent to our skilled team in Tonga, who worked hard to transform them for the benefit of local communities. We’re excited to share how these materials have been given a second life and made a difference.
We also want to express our deep gratitude to the vibrant Pt Chev community for their unwavering support throughout the project. Whether stopping by to chat with our team or sharing fond memories of the Pt Chev Library, every interaction has been cherished. We’re thankful for the connections and moments we’ve shared with you all along the way.

Point Chevalier is set to welcome a new modular library in May 2025, replacing the temporary pop-up service currently located at Huia Road. The new facility, covering 166sqm, will offer an upgraded library experience with modern features like heat pumps, double glazing, charging stations, and a deck. The library will be situated near the old library, which is set to begin deconstruction in late November or early December 2024. During this time, safety hoarding and fencing will be in
place and parts of the old building will be reused or recycled for future council projects.Once the new library opens, the Huia Road pop-up service will close, and the site will be made available as a venue for hire. The modular library is expected to operate for 5-7 years while long-term plans for library services in Point Chevalier continue. A confirmed opening date and public event details will be provided in early 2025.
