Moe’s Story

OVERVIEW:

We wanted to introduce you all to our Maintenance superstar and PROUD Tuvaluan Moe M’tagi.

A loved and valued member of our Trow Group Kaaiga for almost 3 years now!

Moe’s journey is an incredibly entrancing one, though both of his parents are full Tuvaluan he was actually born in Banaba, Kiribati and was raised in the country of Nauru before moving to Aotearoa in 2016 with his 4 children. Putting his family’s future at the forefront of everything he does, is the very reason he moved to New Zealand with them in 2016. Not only was it a good opportunity from a work perspective, but it was also an avenue financially for Moe to ensure his children got the best education they could.

Moe’s childhood being Tuvaluan growing up in Nauru was a beautiful mix between biking down to the beach, swimming all day in the sun then ending it with good home-cooked feed before doing it all again the next day – However, always keeping Wednesdays and Sundays for church. Though he wasn’t living in his motherland of Tuvalu, a way he continues to connect with the land is through the Language and the Cuisine (Especially raw fish). A noble thing to mention about Moe is how he has used both the Tuvaluan Language and the food as a tool to continue reminding and educating his children about their Tuvaluan roots.

We are so grateful to have Moe with us at Trow Group and we enjoyed celebrating him and his lineage throughout this week, as well as understanding more deeply about:

1. How family has always been the driving priority for him and

2. How he is ensuring that the Tuvaluan culture does not end with him, and instead is a treasured piece of knowledge that will be passed down for generations as a way to preserve the language and its lineage. Beautiful!
