CASE STORY

P.O.P UP Maketi 828

OVERVIEW:

In the wake of Covid-19, Trow Group redeveloped a Kāinga Ora space in Avondale into a vibrant pop up market.

For six weeks, ‘P.O.P Up Maketi 828’ connected, celebrated and promoted Pasifika and Māori businesses while encouraging sustainability and entrepreneurship. TROW Group built the market’s infrastructure and invited people to showcase their businesses and sell goods or services for free – there was no stallholder fee.

“When COVID hit, we wanted to do something different to help support the aspirations of Pasifika and Māori business owners. P.O.P stands for people over profit and 828 refers to the area code for Avondale.”

The stallholder space was so popular, TROW Group had to implement an online system to manage the stallholder space and take bookings.

Some of the key highlights include the vibrant community atmosphere, great food and music, and watching live entertainment from talented Pasifika and Maori youth performed in the market centre.
